The interweb will be coming to a halt the second week of March, as all the Internet rockstars and wannabees (that’s me) head to Austin, Texas for South By Southwest (SXSW). In case you didn’t already know, Twitter first blew up at SXSW in 2007, then caught on with the masses to become the ubiquitous messaging tool it is today.
This will be my fourth year in a row attending what’s now become my favorite event – a celebration of music, film, and the web. The SXSW vibe is like no other, maintaining it’s grassroots feel despite how massive it’s grown over the years.
A big part of the event are all the parties, mostly congregating in and around infamous 6th Street. My party schedule kicks off with the WordPress Party on March 11th – thanks Barry for the invite! Then, onto the Mashables House at Buffalo Bills on the 13th. And then, finally, our own ServerBeach GeekyBeach Party at Venue 222 (formerly Aces Lounge) on March 15th. There are so many more parties, but my progressive aging has turned me into a wuss – a good night sleep beats out an all-nighter these days.
All 500 early bird tickets for the GeekyBeach Party were scooped up in the first week of release. We also have 150 VIPs confirmed to date (PEER 1 Hosting and ServerBeach customers/partners) and a growing list of media attendees. We are giving out a limited number of VIP Passes at the ServerBeach booth (#409, 411), so make sure to drop by. We’re expecting over 1,000 people to get their geek on with electro funk artist Neilyo headlining the evening. Doors open at 9pm.
