Cuil Sets Its Sites on Google

New search engine Cuil has made no bones about it. They’re going after Google with what they believe is a superior search engine that searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance… and not on “superficial popularity metrics”. Ouch!
According to their site, Cuil searches more pages on the web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft. Interesting enough, many of the executives are ex-Google people. Try it out and let me know what you think. Are they a real threat to Google, or are they just trying to use this positioning to generate some early PR attention.

I have been using CUIL (cool) but on some search requests it says no results found. Have you had similar issues.

Sure they can beat Google?

Your post brought up some thoughts for me to share.
Cuil.com has a different layout and I haven’t used it much.
I have such a comfort with Google that I have a hard time thinking about even using a new search engine.
I used it only a couple times, still doesn’t look like it will beat Google. Too new to tell.

Too early to judge. I remember the days when Netscape were tipped as #1 and never quite made it. Would be good to see someone really threaten Google.

Doesn’t like long tailed keyword phrases. Been told it’s database is ten times smaller than Google. Cannot see it becoming a real competitor for Google for some time.
