Something we're doing is creating branded Facebook splash pages for our clients that integrate with their marketing materials. They're fun, easy to update and act like mini-websites. They can have tabs and navigation. They may just make websites irrelevant.

For the average user, a blog is much easier to update than a website especially if your are not in the industry. If used correctly in combination with your site, then you can constantly create new fresh content with links back to your old website. I am not sure I can agree with Replacing your website though, with a little work, or the right firm, your website can also be a great marketing tool that requires no more work than a successful blog.
