Does the Word "Sucks", Suck?

A very lively debate going on over at Mark Steven’s blog. Mark is the best-selling author of the book “Your Marketing Sucks”. He bought some billboard space from Clear Channel with the words “www. Your Marketing Sucks.com”. The billboards were located on two major roads leading into Manhattan, NY. Last week, Clear Channel received a complaint from an executive at Net Jets, a holding of Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway. The executive was upset that his 6-year old daughter would be exposed and consequently corrupted by the word “sucks”. He demanded it be taken down or Mark would “feel the full wrath of the Berkshire Hathaway empire.” Mark didn’t cave in, but Clear Channel did – removed the billboard without notifying Mark. I’ve given my thoughts on the issue through my comments on his blog. What do you think? See Mark’s blog post

I think Mark did the right thing by standing his ground. If Warren Buffet is worried about what his 6-year-0ld grandchild will be exposed to in New York City, he’s got a lot more to worry about than a billboard with the word “sucks” in it.
As far as Clear Channel, they’ve shown these same colors several times. In the face of adversity, they will cave every time, sacrificing their clients and artists as long as it doesn’t cost them any money. They have zero integrity.

This controversy seems to have generated more publicity than he could have hoped for.
